Is It Too Hot???
Here are some quick signs to look for to tell if it is too hot to walk:
- "The 5 Second Rule" to test if the pavement is too hot for your pup's paws. Place the back of your hand on the pavement. If you cannot hold it for five seconds, it's too hot to walk your dog. If the asphalt is so hot you could probably fry an egg on it, then it can burn your dog's feet. Also keep in consideration certain dog's pads, especially puppies are not as adaptable to heat and may not be able to stand even temperatures you can.
- If your dog is panting heavily within a few minutes into the walk, your dog is giving you a big warning sign it is too warm and it's time to go home.
